A journey into fathering

I was deep into my MFA program for photography and Sally was in her third year of medical school. Oops, son Carl came along. And guess who would become the house husband, certainly not Sally, the one who was going to be the household bread winner. I had to initiate my thesis project which heretofore my photography was always pursued outside the house on location. Welcome to my new location- the interior of our home. I turned the camera on Carl and me and let the emotions flow into crazy setups I made throughout the house, inspired by the kaleidoscope of emotions I was feeling as a first-time father. Chaos ensued. It was a mgical time.  l had no shortage of ideas that flowed out of me for a year and a half. I then moved into my studio, the installations I was making throughout the house were too disruptive. It was also too limiting. Now I could create whatever environment I was inspired to make. It was wonderfully crazy. Carl and I made fifteen more sets in the studio and ended with an appropriate one when he was thirteen. It’s important to point out that this work was done  before Photoshop and digital imaging. All these images were constructed in the camera on a single frame of film. It made for a very intense photo experience, especailly when working with a one-year-old with an attention span of zero.. All images are Untitled
